Tennessee Vacation Critters

Our next vacation post features the critters we encountered while on vacation.

I know it's just a robin.
Connor took this photo and cropped it.

Inch worms fascinate me.
They're so much fun to watch.
Someday I would like a macro lens.
I love close shots of small things.

As usual there were plenty of frogs at our campground.
These close up shots were cropped.
Imagine how good they'd be with my new zoom lens!

It's hard to pick out but that's a bullfrog tadpole.
They're huge!

This is the third time we've camped at Blackberry Blossom Campground.
The first year we were serenaded by bullfrogs.
The second year it stormed like crazy.
This year, it was raccoons.

They had ZERO fear of us.
We think they didn't know they should be afraid of people.
The campground is fairly high up in the mountains away from populous areas.

Not scared in the least.

These two clearly knew where to look for snacks.
Thankfully mom wasn't around.

While cute, they became obnoxious.
The raccoons just wouldn't leave our campsite alone.
They would leave for a short bit but come back.
We notified the campground staff.
They told us the raccoon population had recently moved farther up the mountain.

We tried everything to scare them.
They weren't phased at all.
One last effort we made was to rattle the grate.
It collapsed on one of the coons and trapped it.
We freed it and they ran off.
We felt bad one got caught by the grate but at least they finally got scared enough to leave for good!

I happened to look down to see this box turtle while we were sightseeing on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Honestly didn't expect to see a turtle while looking at the mountains.

We think she was trying to lay eggs.

I managed to crop some pics of a couple of birds that visited our friends' bird feeder.
Again, I can't wait to try this next year with my new lens!

This blue bird sat there for quite a bit.
I guess he wanted his picture taken.

Peek-a-boo cardinal.
